Before the current Human-race there was an older, more advanced one. They lived in constant war and in massive cities, disease was ripe and corruption was common-place. This was the race that the Angels watched over, they protected them from everything, except from themselves and soon the brilliant cities were destroyed and the Human-race was near to annihilated.
The current Human-race are the descendants of the few survivors and, if they don't stop, they are heading in the same direction as their ancestors.
